On the 29th of November 2024, the Founder of the Christy Schippers Foundation, Madam Christy Schippers, paid a heartfelt visit to the Amomorley Community Clinic in Accra, Ghana. The purpose of the visit was to assess the needs of the clinic’s Maternity Ward, a critical facility that serves pregnant women and newborn babies in the community. What she encountered was both eye-opening and a call to action.
The Maternity Ward, though functional, is far from meeting the basic standards required for safe and comfortable maternal care. The ward is currently housed in a single room with a dilapidated labour bed, inadequate equipment, and limited resources. This situation poses significant challenges for both healthcare providers and the women who rely on the clinic for safe deliveries.
Madam Christy Schippers was deeply moved by the dedication of the clinic’s staff, who work tirelessly under such challenging conditions to provide care to their patients. However, it was clear that the clinic is in dire need of support, particularly in upgrading the Maternity Ward.
During her visit, Madam Schippers donated assorted toiletries to the clinic, which were distributed to all patients and pregnant women at the facility. This gesture, though small, was a symbol of the Foundation’s commitment to improving the lives of those in need.
Madam Schippers left the clinic with a renewed sense of purpose. It is her heartfelt desire to mobilize support for the Amomorley Community Clinic, particularly in providing new maternity beds, essential medical equipment, and other resources to bring the Maternity Ward up to standard. This will not only improve the quality of care for pregnant women but also ensure the safety and well-being of newborn babies.
